For the first time since 2016, the Bradley Women’s Golf Team is hosting their own tournament: the Bradley Coyote Creek Classic. This is the fourth tournament of the fall season for the Braves and Coyote Creek Golf Club in Bartonville which will host the 13-team tournament.
Coyote Creek has been home to the men’s and women’s teams since fall 2019. Following the merger of Pine Lakes Golf Club and Coyote Creek, the Braves have announced it will be their new home.
Coyote Creek features an 18 hole par 72 championship level golf course. The course was designed by the late Bruce Borland, who was a lead designer for Jack Nicklaus.
Bounded by woods, the course offers views that can be both magnificent and terrifying for golfers off the tee. Narrow and lush fairways also abound, as the course is still in great condition.
Head Coach Halley Morell is excited to host his first tournament in seven years and present a great golf course in central Illinois.
“I’m so excited,” Morell said. “I think everything is falling into place; the course is in great condition, we have a great course for this tournament and I’m just happy to show the Peoria and Coyote Creek golf course.
Coyote Creek offers one of the most difficult courses in central Illinois with narrow fairways protected by trees and raised greens with very sharp contours. The stretch of holes that most will remember when they leave include holes 2, 3 and 4.
The third hole is one of the most iconic par 5s in the state of Illinois. The 11th hole has been redeveloped and now the par-3 features a large coyote face, filled with rocks.
Bradley will have the home course advantage for next Saturday’s tournament, which could play a role. Morell knows they can lead the way as they please and to their advantage.
“There are holes here that our team know where to hit the ball and where to miss it,” said Morell. “The other teams who are only allowed one practice lap won’t quite have that advantage.
The field for this tournament is full of great talent and teams that the Braves know well.
The field of 13 includes seven teams from the Missouri Valley, highlighted by the State of Illinois, the State of Missouri and northern Iowa. Other non-MVC teams to watch include Xavier, Western Michigan and Green Bay.
The Bradley Coyote Creek Classic will start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 9.
