Sami Zayn is the “Wile E. Coyote of WWE”

Poor Sami Zayn. He just can’t take a break.
The WWE resident cartoon character was caught in calamity again this week as his best plans failed him. Anytime he seems to have his opponent tricked or the WWE leadership tricked into giving him what he wants? it always ends up turning against him
Having recently won a battle royale to clinch the WWE Universal Title, Zayn was on top of the world.
Then it all fell apart.
After disrupting Brock Lesnar’s opening promo on Friday night, Zayn was quickly put back in his place. An upset beast decided he had no patience and wouldn’t wait for his next shot against Roman Reigns and the Blue Belt.
Lesnar then went out of his way to “convince” Zayn that it would be in his best interest to play his match with Reigns that night, rather than wait for the Day 1 event on January 1, 2020.
Even though Zayn tried to force his way out of the match, he eventually found himself in the middle of the ring at the end of the night. But not for long.
Lesnar attacked him, hitting several suplexes and a pair of F-5s, leaving Zayn in a heap in the corner of the ring. After the beast exited, the tribal chief arrived and finished off his already decimated challenger.
This is the case with Sami Zayn. Every plan he hatches and every trap he sets always seems to leave him with an egg in his face.
Zayn’s comedy of mistakes reminds us of another gaunt star who never seems to get it right: Wile E. Coyote.
Much like the Roadrunner, success has eluded Zayn recently. He hits her in the face, beeps several times, then quickly runs away. It doesn’t matter what different plot devices he uses to achieve his goal. It always explodes in his face. It’s almost like he’s commissioned all of his strategies from The ACME Corporation.
Ultimately, however, this is what makes both Zayn and his cartoonish counterpart so entertaining and relatable, even as villains. You can sit down and watch them make a plan. Then laugh at them when they end up falling off the cliff. You almost feel sorry for them because they seem so deep.
Zayn plays this silly heel role in an incredible way. He’s not afraid to laugh at himself to entertain fans, or arrogantly exaggerate, only to slip into a banana peel seconds later. He enjoys what entertains the audience and he is happy to fill the role.
While he has failed in his race for the ultimate crown, who knows? One day, he could possibly take a new step and become world champion.
And maybe… this coyote will finally catch this bird someday too.
