PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – Saturday was National Credit Union Day, so three local credit unions came together for a cause to make friendships forever.

Mountain Heritage, Riverview and West Virginia Central Credit Unions have come together to help the Humane Society of Parkersburg and the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley for what they call The Canine Classic.

They help the community by matching people with their future best friends forever and by covering adoption costs to make people’s pockets a little easier.

Joining forces is important for all parties involved and the impact this has on every individual who finds their best friend is indescribable.

Mike Tucker, President and CEO of West Virginia Central Federal Credit Union, said, “I think it’s always important to have a pet or best friend in the house with you. This has been very important over the past 18 to 24 months with the Covid. So many people came home and I think a lot of people took in pets during that time because they needed someone with them to have that ability to socialize a bit. So you can feel like you have someone around you.

These three credit unions are expected to come together and eventually create other credit unions for future credit union days to bring something to the community that they believe will benefit them.
