Friday night concludes a three-game home game for South Dakota (5-4) that started last Saturday. Since returning from the Paradise Jam, the Coyotes have taken victories over Wichita State and Bradley to go above 0.500 for the first time this season. The Coyotes have had a hell of a non-conference list – ranked as the nation’s second toughest schedule to date by the NCAA rankings with a combined record of 51-11. South Dakota are coming off a balanced team victory over Bradley with seven players contributing five or more points.

Valparaiso (0-8) will experience a quick turnaround after its 73-56 loss to Notre-Dame, number 22, on Wednesday night. The Beacons have three double-digit average players this season at Carie Wienman (12.6), Shay Frederick (11.1) and Grace White (10.4). The team let it fly from the depths this year – with nearly 26 3-point attempts per game, half of the Beacons’ shooting attempts have been outside the arc. Valparaiso is the second straight team and third overall for the Missouri Valley Conference on the Coyotes’ non-conference list.
The series
South Dakota holds a 2-0 advantage in series history, with a home and away game from the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons previously on the books. The Coyotes won the last game at Vermillion 81-62 on December 9, 2014.
One last thing
South Dakota’s defense has been impressive this year. Even with an incredibly hard slate, they keep their enemies at 57 points per game. Together, the nine opponents have averaged 16 points less against the Coyotes than their killer offense of the season.
