Coyote men’s tennis beats John Brown University
Kansas Wesleyan men’s tennis picked up its first win of the season Saturday morning as the Coyotes beat John Brown University 4-3 inside Genesis Health Club.
Rain and high winds overnight forced the game indoors at Genesis.
The Coyotes would sweep the doubles steals to earn the doubles point. Bryce Ware (FR/Amarillo, Texas) and Garrison Wright (FR/Maize, Kan.) defeated Hudson Dick and Woody Woodring 6-2; Alex Sherer (FR/Rossville, Kan.) and Wes Robertson (SO/Edmond, Okla.) beat Logan Wheeler and Blake Cunningham 6-2; and Rodrigo Vera (SR/Lima, Peru) and Braeden Lewis (FR/Edmond, Okla.) defeated Carson Thoma and Isaac Jordan 6-0.
The match would come down to singles matches.
Sherer would walk away with a 4-0, 4-1 game over Wheeler at No. 2; Hudson Dick for John Brown would beat Ware 4-1, 2-4, 10-7 to tie the singles match. John Brown then won at No. 3 as Woodrng beat Wright 5-3, 5-4.
The Coyotes then picked up fifth-round wins as Vera beat Jordan 4-0, 4-2; and Robertson beat Thoma 4-0, 4-3.
John Brown would win at No. 6 as Cunningham beat Francisco Velasquez (SO/Arkansas City, Kan.) 1-4, 4-1, 10-5.
A match against Hastings was canceled on Saturday afternoon after bad weather set in for the area and indoor courts were unavailable.
KWU returns to action starting Wednesday in Orlando, Fla. against Aquinas (Mich.). KWU will play five games in Orlando before returning home to face Texas Wesleyan on March 18.
