Coyote men and women beat Bethel in North Newton


NORTH NEWTON – The Kansas Wesleyan women’s and men’s football teams have defeated Bethel.

The Coyotes extended their unbeaten streak to seven games for a 4-1 win over the Threshers Wednesday night at Thresher Stadium.

KWU is 6-0-1 in unbeaten streak and improved to 9-4-1 overall and 6-1-1 in KCAC.

The victory was also the Coyotes’ 20th straight victory over Bethel, a streak that began in 2002.

Leoni Enzlmuller (FR / Linz, Austria) scored the Coyotes’ first goal in the 23rd minute, converting a penalty and making it 1-0.

Ashley Quintanilla (SR / Bakersfield, Calif.) Gave the Coyotes a 2-0 lead with a goal from a direct kick from 25 yards in the 53rd minute.

KWU wasted virtually no time taking the 3-0 lead when Tyler Goodwin (SR / Covina, Calif.) Scored 27 seconds later in the game in the 54th minute. His goal assisted by Lissette Garcia (SR / Bakersfield, Calif.).

Bethel scored his only goal in the 88th minute and in the 90th minute the Coyotes scored his own side by Bethel when a defender missed a back clearance and sent it into his own net.

KWU outscored Bethel 14-3 in the match, led by three shots each by Goodwin and Enzlmuller. Daisy Bingham (SR / Huntington Beach, Calif.) Claimed the victory in goals for the Coyotes.

Wesleyan is back home on Saturday, welcoming friends at 5 p.m. at the Graves Family Sports Complex.

Kansas’ Wesleyan men’s football earned their third straight victory Wednesday night with a 3-1 victory over the Bethel Threshers at Thresher Stadium.

The Coyotes improved to 4-10-1 overall and 3-6 in the Kansas Conference with the win.

The win also extended a pair of streaks for the Coyotes against Bethel. It was KWU’s 14th consecutive win over the Threshers, and KWU has an overall 18-game unbeaten streak against Bethel, going 17-0-1 since 2005.

The Coyotes had to play from behind after allowing a 20th-minute goal to Lucas Pardo de Bethel.

Luis Simbron (SR / Miami, Florida) equalized in the 34th minute. Ivis Gutierrez (SR / Los Angeles, Calif.) Ran down the middle and passed the baton to a Simbron who dribbled into the box, passing three Bethel defenders and shooting inside the far post from 12 yards.

The score would remain 1-1 in half-time.

Alfonso Lopez (JR / Fontana, Calif.) Scored the game winner for the third consecutive time in the 51st minute.

After KWU was called for offside, waving a goal, Bethel had a throw-in. Lopez would steal the throw-in pass and passed three Bethel defenders along the right seam, shooting just inside the penalty area and towards the goal.

Lopez would cap the score with a goal in the 85th minute. Lopez circled a stray shot, then shot 15 yards and hit the far post and for the goal, bringing the score to 3-1.

KWU outscored Bethel 18-9 in the game. Simbron and Lopez had six each for the Coyotes. Oswaldo Diaz-Lopez (FR / Bryan, Texas) made two saves in the game.

Wesleyan returns to the action on Saturday, welcoming friends at 7:30 p.m. to the Graves Family Sports Complex.
