SHELBY – The Coyote Classic Basketball Tournament, hosted by Shelby High School, featured some of the rising Class B / C teams across the state with more intriguing matches throughout the tournament.

The first day we saw the boys and girls games between the Chinook Sugarbeeters and the Cut Bank Wolves. The boys went first with Sugarbeeter six-foot-five soccer player Oskar Pula, playing both ends of the floor blocking shots and hitting the rim as they routed Wolves 55-47.

In the girls’ match, sophomore Hallie Neibauer showed why, as a freshman, she made the whole lecture dismantling Cut Bank’s defensive score on all three levels. Head Coach Mike Jones’ team defense was strong and fierce. ‘Beeters wins 53-34. Neibauer scored 25 points.

In the second game between the Class B boys Fairfield Eagles and Loyola Rams, the Eagles showed why they are still a contender. With several stellar performances, the Eagles dominated from start to finish, running away with a resounding victory over the Rams, 68-44.

The final game of the night was a slow girls’ first half with the Eagles leading 22-13. The score increased for both teams in the second, but Fairfield maintained their lead and clinched a 52-41 victory.
