Coyote athletics adds 10
VERMILLION, SD – South Dakota Athletics/Cross Country Director Lucky Huber is pleased to announce the addition of Bre Dunn, Mikael Grace, Henry Grayson, Chloe Green, Caden LaFleur, Landon Olson, Bella Pavlis, Lexi Quigley, Maci Steuber and Matayah Yellow Mule to the Coyote athletics program.
Bre Dunn | Hurdles and Multis | Barrington, Ill. | Barrington HS | Health Sciences
Hailing from outside Chicago in Barrington, Illinois, Bre Dunn placed fourth at the 2022 Illinois State Championships with a personal best 44.99 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles. It was the second year in a row that she placed in the event’s top six at the state meet. She also helped the Broncos place the 4×400 meter relay at the state meet in 2019 and 2021. She was a member of the Broncos’ 2021 Sectional Championship and multiple tag team conference championships. On the club circuit, she won the heptathlon at the 2021 USATF Illinois All-Comers Meet. She holds a personal best in the heptathlon of 3,662 points. Barrington also competed in volleyball and gymnastics for the Broncos, serving as the volleyball team’s captain and starting center tackle as a senior. In class, she was an Illinois State Scholar, a member of the Delta Epsilon Phi National German Honor Society, and the National Honor Society. She plans to major in health sciences at USD.
Mikael Grace | Hurdles | Custer, SD | Custer HS | criminal justice
Custer, South Dakota hurdler Mikael Grace finished second in the 110-meter hurdles at the 2021 South Dakota State Championships in 15.38 seconds. He also anchored the Wildcats’ 4×200-meter relay in fifth place. Grace holds personal bests of 15.36 seconds in the 110 hurdles and 41.95 seconds in the 300 hurdles. He also participated in football, basketball, and wrestling at Custer High School. An honor roll student, he plans to major in criminal justice in South Dakota.
Henry Grayson | Sprints | Medford, Minnesota | Medford HS | Company
Medford, Minnesota native Henry Grayson finished second in the 400 meters at the 2022 Minnesota State Championships, clocking a personal best 49.52 seconds in the final. He was the 2021 Gopher Conference Athlete of the Year. At the conference meet, he won gold in the 400 and 200 meters, while finishing second in the 100 meters. He holds the Medford High School records in the 400 meters (49.52) and 4×200 meters relay (1:35.64). He holds a personal best of 23.34 in the open 200 meters. He was also a member of the Tigers basketball team. Grayson plans to major in business in South Dakota.
Chloe Green | Sprints | Omaha, Neb. | Westside HS | Company
A sprinter from Omaha, Nebraska, Chloe Green won the Westside High School Sprinter of the Year award. She led the Warriors’ 4×100 relay to third place at the 2022 Nebraska State Championships, also winning a medal as a member of the 4×400 relay. She holds personal bests of 12.45 seconds in the 100 meters and 26.04 seconds in the 200 meters. She is a member of the DECA and a student on the honor roll. Green plans to major in business in South Dakota.
Caden LaFleur | Launch| South Sioux City, Neb. | Bishop Heelan Catholic HS | Finance
A native of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Caden LaFleur competes for Bishop Heelan Catholic High School in Sioux City, Iowa. He placed sixth in the discus at the 2021 Iowa State Championships. He owns personal bests of 156-4 in the discus and 50-8 ½ in the shot put. He also qualified for the Drake Relays and was the main tackle for the Crusaders football team in 2020. An honor roll student, LaFleur plans to major in finance while in business school. from USD.
Landon Olson | jumps| Battle Creek, Neb. | Battle Creek HS | Finance
A native of Battle Creek, Nebraska, Landon Olson is a Nebraska State champion in the long jump and a seven-time Nebraska State Championships state medalist. As a senior, he won gold with the 4×100 meters relay in 43.99 seconds, added a second place in the high jump, was second in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump at the Championships. 2022 Nebraska State Championships. He had a personal best 6-10 in the high jump at the state meet and had a personal best 23-1 ¼ in the long jump in April. Both marks are Battle Creek High School records. Olson is a two-time all-district and all-state varsity winner on the football field, helping the team reach statehood. He was the class president of Battle Creek, the president of the National Honor Society, and an honor roll student. He plans to major in finance through USD business school.
Bella Pavlis | Sprints | Flandreau, SD | Flandreau | Company
A native of Flandreau, South Dakota, Bella Pavlis placed fifth in the 100 meters at the 2021 South Dakota State Championships with a time of 13.14 seconds. She qualified for the state meet nine times, helping the Fliers reach the championships in three stints during her senior season. She holds personal bests of 12.8 seconds in the 100 meters and 27.0 seconds in the 200 meters. Pavlis also places for the Fliers volleyball and basketball teams, earning all-conference honors on the volleyball court and helping the basketball team reach the state tournament. She is a Girls State participant, National Honor Society member, FCA member, student council member, and a four-time academic letter winner. She plans to major in business in South Dakota.
Lexi Quigley | Sprints | Rapid City, SD | Stevens HS | Pre-law
A native of Rapid City, South Dakota, Lexi Quigley won the women’s sports award at Rapid City Stevens. She clocked personal bests of 13.63 seconds in the 100 meters and 28.81 seconds in the 200 meters as a senior. Quigley plans to go to law school after the law track and will be on the pre-law track in South Dakota.
Maci Steuber | away | Columbia, Missouri | HS rock bridge | Kinesiology & Sport Management
A native of Columbia, Missouri, Maci Steuber has helped the Bears’ cross country program finish in the top four at the state meet three times, including a second-place finish at the 2020 Missouri State Championships. The cross country team has four district titles and two section championships in Steuber’s prep career. She holds personal bests of 19:17.10 for 5,000 meters on the cross country course and 11:44.21 for 3,200 meters on the track. An honor roll student, Steuber plans to major in kinesiology and sports management.
Matayah Yellow Mullet | jumps | Rapid City, SD | Central HS | Undecided
A native of Rapid City, South Dakota, Matayah Yellow Mule won back-to-back state triple jump titles as a junior and senior, also winning all-around gold in the event. She added a second-place finish in the long jump at the 2021 South Dakota State Championships and finished fifth in the 100 meters in 2022. Yellow Mule broke a personal best 39-9 in the triple jump during the meet last chance last May, when she held a personal best of 18-11 ½ in the long jump in her junior season. She holds Central’s school record in the long jump. Yellow Mule also played volleyball and participated in gymnastics for the Cobblers.
