Capitals welcome top boys to Caps Canine Night
Capitals get 1-0 home shutout against Golden Knights
Washington Capitals: Top 3 misses against the Golden Knights
The Washington Capitals’ 1-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights last night was a blow. But a silver lining was all puppies content we got to see whether we were watching the game at home or at Capital One Arena. It was more than just a cookie love fest, as many puppies available for adoption through Wolf Trap Animal Rescue were shown.
Each player entered with a pup who deserves a loving new home. The Caps named the puppies in honor of Bob Saget’s passing. Tom Wilson was with Mary Kate and Marla, Alex Ovechkin with Raising Dad, Evgeny Kuznetsov with Michelle Tanner, Vitek Vanecek with Madagascar, Lars Eller with Marla and Conor Sheary with Saget. Saget even caught up with our old friend Andrew Gillis from NBC Sports Washington in the press box at the first intermission.
During the pregame skate, there were cardboard cutouts of each of the players’ dogs, including Blake Ovechkin and Halle Wilson.
Players even made a series of videos where they answered questions like their dog’s nickname and if they could ask any of their dogs one question, what would it be?
The Caps also hosted special military guests from the US Vet Dogs before the national anthem. Bob McDonald won.
Oh yes cookie! Let’s not forget our sweet prince.
Fans who purchased a ticket to the game through a special link received a Caps Canines t-shirt as well as a bandana for their dog. The evening was sponsored by the Pedigree Foundation, which specializes in helping dogs find their homes.
It was the first time the Caps had made such a promotion and I have no doubt they will continue in future seasons. Every NHL team should have a team dog. It’s great for the dressing room and the fan base.
