Here are the best stories today in Roanoke:

  1. After a 40-year journey, a Roanoke College teacher finally got the chance to compete on “Jeopardy!” and move on to the next round. Dr Gary Hollis has been teaching at college since 1995. He says he watched “Jeopardy!” since childhood and for decades trying to participate in the series. Eventually, he got a call in October and was flown to Los Angeles for recording. (WSLS 10)
  2. the Southwest Virginia Ballet will feature a canine cameo in this year’s performance of “The Nutcracker”. Luna was found abandoned, tied to a post last month. Animal control took her to Angels of Assisi, where she received hospitalization, veterinary care and TLC. The animal welfare agency says she is doing much better and is on the road to recovery.   3. Last Thursday, nearly 1,000 pounds of game were donated to the Pantry of Christian soldiers in Roanoke. (WDBJ7)
  4. The chapter of the American Red Cross serving the Roanoke Valley gets a new vehicle to transport blood throughout the community, thanks to inspiration from Lionberger Construction. (Roanoke Times)
